Flute Ensemble
Flute Ensemble
Dr. Laura Kaufman Mowry, Director
Under the direction of Dr. Laura Kaufman Mowry, the Flute Ensemble rehearses weekly on Mondays from 5:00 - 6:40 PM and performs several times a season.
The Flute Ensemble fosters the development of performance, ensemble, and leadership skills within a positive environment. The small size of the ensemble facilitates individual attention for each student, resulting in increased musical growth and enhanced student potential. Principal parts are rotated throughout all members and two competitions are offered each season exclusively to Flute Ensemble members. A portion of the repertoire performed on each concert features two smaller ensembles based on age: the Symphonic Flute Ensemble and Chamber Flute Ensemble. Past seasons of the Flute Ensemble have included other performance opportunities, such as community outreach and a performance at the Flute Society of Washington Flute Convention. Past guest coaches have included Aaron Goldman (Principal Flute, NSO), Larry Ink (Principal Flute, Fairfax Symphony), and Dr. Sarah Frisof (Professor of Flute, University of Maryland).
