Summer String Academy, Composition Program
Under the direction of Doug Wallace, the AYPO Summer String Academy Composition Program offers aspiring composers the opportunity to learn concepts behind music composition. Daily activities will include: composition masterclass, orchestration and music history class, discussions with professional composers, and more!
This year Summer String Academy’s Composition Program will take place the week of Monday, July 26 through Friday, July 30, 2021 from 9am-2pm.
COMPOSITION PROGRAM
$250 tuition
Grades: Rising 8th-12th
Summer String Academy Composition Program curriculum will include:
Daily composition masterclass
Daily orchestration and music history class
Masterclasses and/or Zoom discussions with current professional composers
Guidance and feedback on pieces written by student composers
Participation in readings and rehearsals of student compositions (pieces for strings, piano, and percussion only)
Each student will receive a recording of one composition (pieces for strings, piano, and percussion only)
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Those who wish to be accepted into the Summer String Academy Composition Program must complete all of the following steps by June 1, 2021:
Complete the AYPO Summer String Academy Application Form at the button below. Be sure to select “Composition” as your camp program on the application form.
Upload a PDF score and audio (live or MIDI/MP3, WAV or aiff) of a composition two minutes or greater in length. The composition can be for any instrumentation, but must include two players or more (no solo pieces). Include your full name on the file.
Upload a list of 5 musical influences (composers, performers, songwriters, etc.) and explain in 1 or 2 sentences why they are an influence to you. Include your full name on the file.
