Senior Spotlight: Aislin Carpenter, trumpet
Chloe McIntosh
What AYPO ensembles have you played in and for how long?
I have been in AYP for two years and AYP Chamber for one year.
A funny, favorite, or memorable AYPO experience?
My favorite AYP experience is playing Prokofiev's Fifth Symphony in the final concert of the 2017-18 season. While everyone in the brass section blasted their faces into oblivion, it is was definitely worth it.
What musician inspires you and why?
I am especially inspired by Alison Balsom, a British trumpet soloist. I have been obsessed with her recording of "Legende" since the seventh grade, and I try to integrate her exquisite tone and artistic decisions into my own playing. I hope to emulate her musical intuition and entrepreneurial skills in my future career.
Your advice for young musicians?
Do not let failure paralyze you. The sooner you accept the inevitability of imperfection, the sooner you will improve. Most importantly, never let failure bar you from future opportunities!
What do you hope to do after graduation?
I am planning to attend the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University for a degree in trumpet performance.
