Senior Spotlight: Chloe Meyer, Bassoon
Miranda Martin Southwood
What is your current AYPO ensemble?
AYP
What AYPO ensembles have you played in and for how long?
AYCO freshman and sophomore year, AYSO sophomore year, AYP junior and senior year.
Your advice for young musicians?
Romanticize your music as much as you can. It's possible for you to enjoy even your whole notes if you absorb yourself in the music as much as possible. It makes every single rehearsal more fun.
What college/university do you plan on attending this fall?
University of Michigan, Bassoon performance and Music education
A favorite, or memorable AYPO experience?
A funny memory that I have was in AYCO, when Mr. Anderson was quizzing us on a musical term, and decided that the winner would get the singular dollar bill that he stuck onto his forehead. Even with the sweat attached, so many people fought for that dollar.
What do you hope to do after graduation or your more long-term goals?
I wish to become a professor and teach some music related topic, whether that be conducting, music theory, bassoon performance, or something else. I want to give my students the same joy I get participating in music.
What musician, conductor, or orchestra inspires you and why?
My band director, Mr. Legrand inspires me, because even in times of chaos when things aren't working out, he always manages to remain calm and make sure that our band still puts on our best performance. He also forms a close bond with every student, and has made sure that there is a sense of community within our band.
